May I use a regular skin exfoliant to exfoliate?
Most skin exfoliants are too oily for sunless tanning. The oil will create a barrier for the tanning product and hence affect the end result. This is particularly true for oily skin types. Therefore your exfoliant should not leave an oily residue and if possible be free from perfume.

For optimal results we highly recommend our self-tanning Body Scrub or Glove Scrub (click here), both of which thoroughly exfoliate the skin for a smooth, deep tan.

Why shouldn't I shave or wax directly before a sunless tan?
Shaving can irritate the skin, even cut the skin, and this can lead to an uneven tanning result. It can also affect the final skin tone due to certain ingredients in shaving creams reacting negatively with the tanning ingredients. Waxing can irritate the skin but can also leave a waxy deposit on the skins surface which affects the absorption of the tanning ingredients. This leads to an uneven result.

We highly recommend that you wait approximately 12-24 hours between shaving/waxing and tanning.

May I shower directly before application?
Yes, you may shower but we recommend that you do not exfoliate, nor shower with very hot water. For example, if you would like to apply your self-tanner in the morning upon waking up, we recommend that you exfoliate the evening before and then shower in the morning with warm water. Remember to thoroughly dry your skin and do not moisturise as the moisturiser will act as a barrier.

May I wait longer than 10 hours till showering my skin?
We recommend that you shower your skin 6-10 hours after applying your product. However, you may wait longer but we suggest that you don't postpone it too long and certainly no longer than 24-hours.

I have heard of a method called Brenting. How does it work?
Brenting is a little known sunless tanning technique which consists of showering 2-4 hours post-treatment, instead of the general 6-10 hours. This limits the amount of DHA the skin absorbs and is particularly useful for lighter/paler skin types that turn too dark/orange from sunless tanning products.

For optimal results, we recommend that you apply slightly less product than you are typically used to applying, then wait 2-4 hours till showering.

May I train after application?
We highly recommend that you do not train or engage in strenuous physical activity directly following your treatment. It's important to keep your skin dry up till the time you shower.

What can I do to make my sunless tan last longer?
As a sunless tan affects only the top layer of skin, the stratum corneum, it cannot last forever and gradually wears away as we naturally shed dead skin cells. However, you can slow this process by exfoliating thoroughly before application, and by using a light daily moisturiser in the days following your treatment. We highly recommend Daily Moisturiser or the tax extender Moisture Tanned.

Hur applicera jag solsprayen 'Sun Kissed Solspray'
Sun Kissed Solspray är väldigt enkel att applicera! Spraymisten lägger sig i ett tunt lager på huden och behöver inte smetas ut för hand. Eftersom misten är färgad har du full kontroll på var du sprayat. Slutresultatet blir helt enkelt en jämnare solbränna!

Steg 1
Duscha och peela huden cirka två timme före sprayning. Vi rekommenderar vår Body Scrub eller Glove Scrub. Om du använder någon av dessa produkter får du en grundlig peelning utan att några spår av olja lämnas kvar på huden.

Du ska inte smörja in huden med någon hudkräm efter duschen, förutom på torra ställen som händer, knän och armbågar. Det förhindrar att färgen blir för mörk på torra hudpartier.

Steg 2
Spraya två lager med 5-minuters mellanrum. Det första lagret ska vara ett grundlager och det är viktigt att spraya ett tunt lager först och låt torka innan du upprepar proceduren. Spraya med ett avstånd på 15-20 cm från kroppen. Spraya i raka linjer som överlappar varandra lite, över hela kroppen för att säkerställa en jämn spridning. Låt torka 5-10 minuter innan du klär på dig.

Steg 3
Vi rekommenderar att du låter sprayen verka under åtta till tolv timmar, sen duscha bort vätskan. Håll huden torr tills du duschar. Efter duschen skall du återfukta huden och för att uppnå bästa resultat rekommenderar vi att du prövar en av våra hudkrämer.

Hur applicera jag gelen 'Gel Tanned'?
Steg 1
Duscha och peela huden cirka två timmer innan du applicerar gelen. Badda huden torr och smörj därefter in hander, fötter och andra torra parter med hudkräm för att förhindra att färgen blir för mörk där.

Steg 2
Smörj in en kroppsdel i sander med cirkulära rörelser för att förhindra att resultatet blir randigt. Var noggrann så att du inte missar något ställe. Gnid inte in gelen för hårt utan smörj in och låt den absorberas naturligt. Applicera sparsamt i ansikte, nacke och på andra känsliga delar.

Använd tillsammans med Sunless Smoother för bästa resultat.

Steg 3
När du är färdig kom i håg att tvätta handflatorna. Låt gelen torka i 5 minuter innan du klär på dig. Vänta sedan 8-12 timmar före du duschar, därefter kan du återfukta huden med någon av eSunless’ Hudkrämer.

Can I use something to cover my hands during application?
Some of our products, for example Gel Tanned, require application by hand. So as to avoid colour appearing on the palms of your hands and on you finger tips (especially if you forget to wash your hands after application), we highly recommend that you use our Sunless Smoother.

May I do a repeat application after 24-hours for a darker tan?
We recommend that you use this 'technique' with caution. On certain skin types a re-application after 24-hours can be beneficial to deepen and darker the skin tone. However on certain other skin types this can lead to an over application of colour and cause the colour to fade unevenly and possibly become orange.

With the launch of Sun Kissed Mist, we recommend one application for the perfect sunless tan, without the need for reapplying.

What is DHA?
DHA (INCI-name: Dihydroxyacetone) is a derivative from sugar cane and is the active tanning ingredient in all sunless tanning products. It reacts with a protein, Keratin, which is found in the skins outermost layer (the so called horny layer or Stratum Corneum) to produce a brown pigment termed Melanoidin.

Why isn't there a self-tanning cream in the eSunless range?
eSunless has created products which help you develop the best looking sunless tan possible. Our self-tanning range comprises sprays, serviettes and gels, which we consider to be the optimal means of achieving a smooth, beautiful sunless tan. If you prefer to sensation of applying your sunless-tanner by hand, then we highly recommend Gel Tanned. Do any of your products contain alcohol?
None of our products contain alcohol, neither our self-tanning products nor our professional spray tanning solutions. It is our policy to create products which are both kind and gentle to the skin.

Why isn't there any SPF in your products?
Applied correctly, the protection in any sun block will at most last 4-8 hours. Since an eSunless tan lasts for 5-10 days (up to 14 for some people), adding SPF would not provide protection for the life of your tan and could be misleading. eSunless products do not contain a sunscreen and do not protect against the harmful effects of UV-light.

Can I get an allergic reaction from your products?
If you are allergic to DHA then certainly you may have a reaction. If you have a high propensity for allergic reactions to self-tanning and other cosmetic products then we recommend you do a patch test first. Will sunless tanning work if I have Vitiligo?
Because of the fact that there are no harsh chemicals and preservatives in our products, this means that they are used safely and effectively with certain medical and skin conditions and disorders, such as vitiligo. The degree of effectiveness is largely individual and we recommend that you test either our professional spray tanning treatments or self-tanning products. However, in most cases there will be a noticeable and positive difference.

May I have a sunless tan if I have Acne?
This can be a problem, depending upon the severity of your Acne. For example, exfoliating with a glove or lotion that contains small grains is recommended before your treatment, yet is not recommended if you have acne and risk opening the pores and spreading the infection. We recommend instead that you try exfoliating with lemon juice (lemon contains acidic juices that work to dissolve dead skin cells) or baking soda.

If you have inflamed skin caused by your Acne or as a result of your medication, this may also affect the final colour. The result may be uneven. The best we can recommend is that you first exfoliate and then use a self-tanning spray/have a spray tan. We do not recommend self-tanning creams, which can block your pores.

How long will my tan last?
A sunless tan can last anywhere from 4 to 14 days. It depends entirely upon you and your skin type, for example how often you shower, if you sweat heavily, your moisturiser, if you have dry skin or oily skin. However we usually say that your tan will last for an average of 7-10 days. Kindly read "what can I do to make my sunless tan last longer" for tips.

My clothes have been stained slightly from the colour guide. Does it wash out?
Yes, the colour guide washes out on most fabrics but you may face a problem with leather, wool, nylon and silk. We highly recommend that you wear dark coloured clothing directly after applying your tanning product. We suggest you wash your clothes as soon as possible to avoid any possible permanent staining.

I normally freckle in the sun...will the same happen with sunless tanning?
No. Our sunless tanning products will not cause more freckles. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes will become less visible because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color differential between these areas and the rest of the skin.

Which spray tanning system is best for me - manual or automatic?
A manual spray tanning system generally gives the best tanning results, considering that the spray therapist has complete control over the treatment. With a manual system you are also able to choose between full-body, half-body, face, face & arms, and leg treatments.

Our automatic tanning shower 'eLite' has been designed and optimised for all body shapes and sizes and by following the instructions correctly, it gives the same quality results as our manual systems. If you prefer complete privacy then we recommend that you find a salon that offers spray tanning treatments with the eLite spray shower. With eLite your treatment choice is limited to full-body and leg-only.

Can I still sunless tan if I am pregnant or breast feed?
The concern some doctors have is over whether or not the active ingredient (DHA) is able to enter the blood stream; the indications are that it cannot. DHA only penetrates the outermost layer of the skin. However, if you are still concerned then you should consult your physician first. DHA has been used as a cosmetic ingredient since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin, or causing problems during pregnancy.

How can I remove my sunless tan?
The color produced by a eSunless treatment does not wash off; it simply fades as the upper layers of the epidermis wear away. You can try to speed the exfoliation process by exfoliating with a loofah or Glove Scrub. We recommend that you first shower/bathe your skin for 5-10 minutes in warm water to soften your skin cells, hence avoiding the need to scrub too hard.

May I sunbathe after a treatment?
We do not recommend that you sunbathe directly after your treatment, but certainly you may do so in the days following. Please be aware that a sunless tan does not protect your skin against harmful UV-rays, so your skin is still exposed and vulnerable to the sun. If you choose to expose your skin to UV rays either from the sun or a tanning bed, it is important to use a lotion with SPF to protect you from the sun's harmful rays.

Is an eSunless tan safe?
YES! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. Whatsmore, DHA has been approved by MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) and has been used in cosmetic preparations for over 30 years.
